Published by Jeff | Filed under State Government

Attorney General Roy Cooper is encouraging North Carolinians to take advantage of a telephone service aimed at offering housing and credit counseling. The HOPE Hotline will be operated by two non-profit groups, NeighborWorks America and the Homeownership Preservation Foundation. Counselors will be available to callers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Cooper says that foreclosures have had a dramatic impact on North Carolina families and communities. Check out more information at www.ncdoj.com

National Deed Service Seeks Bad Deal For Citizens! (Again)

Published by Jeff | Filed under Register of Deeds

The Guilford County Register of Deeds has received a large number of inquiries and concerns related to an Illinois based Company with a Washington D.C. address called the National Deed Service, Inc. The company is offering to provide citizens with a certified copy of their property deed for $59.50.

NOTICE: A citizen can obtain a certified copy of their deed from the Register of Deeds office for $5 for the first page and $2 each additional based on the Uniform Fee Schedule set by NC General Statutes.

The average cost to obtain a certified copy of a deed from the Register of Deeds office is between $7 to $9.

This company is NOT associated with Guilford County Register of Deeds, Guilford County Government, or any local, state or federal government agency.

I would greatly appreciate your help! Please inform new homebuyers of this scheme. This is the second letter sent into Guilford County in the past six months. Citizens received the letters beginning January 28, 2008. The first letter needlessly cost 49 citizens over $2500. While it is rare a citizen would need a certified copy of their deed, the document can be more affordably purchased from the Guilford County Register of Deeds office.
