NC Bar Association CLE on eRecording in Cary

Jeff Thigpen had a busy Friday too.

After the NCARD meetings, I trucked it down to Cary to the NC Bar Center for a presentation on eRecording.  Jerry Woodard and I spoke to about 150 attorneys on the topic.  David Smith and Larry Conrad joined us for technical and moral support.  Attorney John Kornegay was in the audience from Greensboro.   He was noted as the most fertile attorney present with eight children and that was a good laugh.

Bruno Demolli with the NC Bar Association preceeded us.  As a new Register I was told that BRUNO oversaw attorney financial practices.   I thought his name was an acronym for an intergovernmental oversight entity.   Bruno did a great job and I was glad to see him and listen in on his presentation.  When Bruno speaks, people listen!

There was an attorney from Pender County in the audience.  I encouraged the group to stop by Paul’s Place Hot Dogs on their next visit to the Beach.   I’m sure the attorneys were ready to leave.  Only 80 and sunny after a long two day training.

Thanks to Steve Klee for the invitation.

NCARD Joint Meetings: Land Records, Automation and Technology, and Vital Records

Rebecca Cipriani had a busy Friday.  A number of Register of Deeds from across the state were in Greensboro to discuss pressing issues.  Rebecca is the Register of Deeds in Rockingham County.  She does a great job and is the new President of NCARD (North Carolina Association of Register of Deeds). Several joint meeting took place one after the other.

I thought we had a great meeting.  Topics included: Vendor Compliance through NC Secretary of State and Social Security Redaction.   There was a great deal of discussion about Guilford County on the redaction topic.  I appreciated the opportunity to discuss our situation and the actions we’ve taken.   Johnston County Register of Deeds Craig Olive took part relating concerns in his county.

I spoke to local attorneys tonight at the Cultural Arts Center.  We discussed the renovations to the Guilford County Courthouse; our move to the BB and T building and issues within the Register of Deeds office.

Good food and conversation. Thanks to Attorney Jon Barlow for the invitation.
